Dr. Stephen Bray
Having provided impartial advice for many years in dental practice, Dr. Bray has been rewarded by having built a wide and strong base of appreciative patients and clients. Honesty and respect are cornerstones to his success.
Dr. Bray earned his BDS with a distinction in medicine at the London Hospital (UK) in 1978 and pursued residency positions there.
He moved with his wife to Ontario, where he achieved his DDS at the University of Toronto, achieving the American Endodontics Award.
After running a successful general dental practice in Northern Ontario, he moved to Kelowna, B.C. with his family in 1984 to operate his own practice there, which he did for 16 years. Receiving a letter of appreciation and service award from the College of Dental Surgeons of B.C. he turned over his practice to his partners and returned to the UK to pursue postgraduate education in 2000.
He practiced in Harley Street (W. London) and ran a South Coast practice (Poole, Dorset) in full mouth reconstruction with an emphasis on jaw joint dysfunction and facial pain management.
After spending time back at the Royal London and Bart’s Hospital he passed the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Membership Exam (Glasgow) and the Royal College of Surgeons Membership Exam (Edinburgh).
He then undertook advanced training in dental implantology from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and achieved certification in Prosthodontics at Kings College University in London.
At this time, he first provided Dental Expert Witness Opinion at Cambridge County Court (UK) and devided that a better apprciation of the facts as they pertained to dentistry was desireable.
A Fellowship in Cranio-mandibular Orthopedics from the USA preceded a move to Boston Massachusetts for full time study in Orofacial Pain and Sleep Apnea Management. He achieved his Fellowship at Tufts University following full time postgraduate studies.
He completed his American Boards examinations and was asked to remain at the University to teach, he divided his time between instructorship at Tufts Dental School and further study at Harvard and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH).
After 3 years there, he returned to the UK for a 2-year University of Glasgow Behavioral Sleep Medicine Diploma remaining associated with the Royal Brompton and Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospitals in London where he provided Expert Opinion in the field of Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
With his wife , he returned to Kelowna, where, working primarily with physicians, he provided a service limited to the management of Sleep Disorders, especially Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Temporo mandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction and Chronic Facial Pain management.
Recently after two years of study he was awarded the coveted Diplomate of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. He also holds Diplomate of the American Board of Cranio-facial Dental Sleep Medicine, the only dentist to hold either qualification by examination, in the interior of British Columbia.
Internationally trained in Forensic work, he offers expertise as a professional Dental Expert Witness for both defense and plaintiff lawyers in British Columbia. He is also available in Massachusetts where he maintains his dental license. He returns to England when he can to pursue further education at the Expert Witness Institute in London.
As a Dental Expert Witness, Dr. Bray can assists the legal team and court with their understanding of the facts of the case at hand. While this usually takes the form of a detailed report, he has taken advanced courtroom training under Mr. Paul Garlic Q.C. (Queen’s Council) and has Expert Witness courtroom experience.
In addition to his Expert Witness Practice, Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Jaw Joint expertise he volunteered his General Dental Skills to low-income families in the Kelowna area, was designated a UBC instructor and has acted for the B.C. Dental Association and its political interface.
His interests include creative writing, online teaching, railways (both model and real), history and spending time with his family and three grandchildren.
